- DuraFlex stainless caps with perforated side screens clogging. We see this most on the DuraFlex SC-series single-flue caps around Fairfax. Creosote builds on the screen mesh, which restricts airflow and pushes smoke back into the house. Most times the cap is fine underneath. We pull it, clean it, and if the mesh has started to pit or tear, we replace the screen or the cap rather than letting it shed rust onto your flue crown.
- Crown cracks at the FlueGard termination point. Homes with DuraFlex FlueGard reline systems often have older poured crowns that were never meant to hold a stainless cap’s expansion.
