Gelco Chimney Repair Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Gelco Chimney Repair in Fairfax: What to Know First

Gelco chimney repair in Fairfax typically runs between $350 and $2,800 depending on whether we’re repointing mortar joints, rebuilding a spalled brick crown, or addressing water damage behind the flashing. Most Gelco-specific repairs take one to two days once parts arrive, and we quote a firm price before any tool comes off the truck. If your Gelco liner kit or cap is failing, we’ll give you the honest answer on whether it’s a repair or a replacement, and we won’t suggest work that doesn’t need doing.

Call (571) 624-2385

This page is for Fairfax homeowners who own a home with Gelco products installed, whether that’s a Gelco chimney cap, a liner system, or brickwork that previous contractors paired with Gelco components. We’re Top Hat Chimney, owned by Wendell Pike, and we’ve been working on Fairfax chimneys since 1999. We’re an independent Gelco service provider, which means we can tell you the truth without a factory script. Call (571) 624-2385 if you have a specific issue you’re trying to sort out.

How Gelco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

Gelco makes solid products, but every brand has weak points. Here’s what we pull off Fairfax roofs year after year:

  • Gelco multi-flue caps with rusted mounting brackets. The cap body is usually stainless or galvanized, but the mounting hardware on older Gelco cap series is often basic steel. Ten winters of Fairfax freeze-thaw cycles and the brackets swell, rust, and snap. We replace the brackets with 316 stainless and remount the cap correctly, no full replacement required.
  • Water penetration through cracked crown seal at the Gelco cap base. Gelco caps do their job, but the seal between the cap base and the masonry crown is only as good as the crown itself. If the crown has hairline cracks, water gets underneath the cap and runs down the flue. We remove the cap, repair or rebuild the crown, and set the cap with a proper water-blocking sealant.
  • Spalling brick below the flashing line on homes with Gelco liners. The liner isn’t the problem here, but owners often assume the whole system failed when they see brick face popping off. The real culprit is usually a dripping edge or failed flashing letting water soak into the masonry. We repair the flashing, tuckpoint the damaged brick, and the Gelco liner stays in service.
  • Loose Gelco liner sections near the smoke shelf. On some Gelco liner installations, the connector section at the smoke shelf was never mechanically fastened properly. High heat expands the metal, the joint shifts, and now you’ve got a gap that shouldn’t be there. We resecure the joint and make sure the liner sits properly through the throat.
  • Gelco caps with dented lids from falling branches. Fairfax has old trees. A limb comes down in a thunderstorm, slams the cap lid, and now the mesh is deformed and the airflow is choked. We either straighten the lid or replace it with the correct Gelco lid part, and we’ll tell you if the dent is cosmetic or actually affecting draft.

One thing we see more often than we should is homeowners paying for a full Gelco liner replacement when only the connector needed work. We won’t do that to you. The camera doesn’t lie.

Our Gelco Chimney Repair Process

  1. 1
Call comes in. You talk to a live person, sometimes Wendell himself, and describe what you’re seeing. We ask specific questions about your Gelco setup so the first visit is useful.
  2. 2
Initial inspection. We arrive in uniform, give you a real window, and call if we’re running behind. We inspect the cap, crown, flashing, and masonry from the roof, then run a camera down the flue.
  3. 3
Plain-English verdict. You see the footage. We show you what’s actually wrong and what’s just cosmetic. If it doesn’t need doing, we’ll tell you that too.
  4. 4
Parts decision. We explain whether OEM Gelco parts make sense or whether a quality aftermarket option does the same job for less. You approve the price before work starts. That number doesn’t change.
  5. 5
The repair. We complete the work, clean up, and do a final draft test to confirm the chimney is breathing properly.
  6. 6
The 90-Day Done Right Promise. It’s in writing on every job. If something isn’t right, one call brings us back at no charge.

  • Mortar repointing around a Gelco installation: $700-$1,800

And remember, you get $40 off any repair over $200, and seniors and veterans always get 10% off.

Why Fairfax Homeowners Call Top Hat Chimney for Gelco Work

We’ve been running brushes through Fairfax chimneys since 1999, and we’ve seen every Gelco configuration that’s been installed in this county. Wendell Pike puts his name on every job. His license number is published, his address is public, and he’ll run into you at the hardware store on Saturday. That changes how he approaches a repair.

Every job carries the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. We also service DuraFlex, HeatShield, and other liner and cap brands, so if your Gelco setup pairs with another manufacturer’s components, we’re not scratching our heads. And the phone gets answered by a real person, around the clock. When you call (571) 624-2385, you get decisions from someone who’s actually been on your roof, not a call center.
