HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown in Fairfax: What to Know First

HeatShield chimney cap and crown work in Fairfax runs $425 to $1,850 depending on whether you need a crown coating, a full crown rebuild, a single-flue cap, or a custom multi-flue setup. Most jobs take one visit, and we give you the straight number before any tool comes off the truck. If you own a HeatShield-lined chimney and the cap or crown has started to go, this page is for you. Call (571) 624-2385 and you’ll get a live person, not a phone tree.

What you won’t get from us is a quote that changes at the door. Wendell Pike has been running a brush through Fairfax chimneys for more than two decades, including plenty of older homes over near the Government Center area where fireplaces earn their keep every November. We’re an independent HeatShield service provider, which means we work on your system the way it actually sits, not the way a corporate manual says it should.

How HeatShield Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

HeatShield makes a good liner product, but no liner survives a failed crown. Here’s what we actually see on HeatShield jobs in Fairfax:

  • CeCure sleeve crowns cracking at the flue opening. HeatShield’s CeCure sleeves fit tight around the flue, which is good for the liner but rough on the crown. When the crown cracks around that opening, water runs straight down the outside of the sleeve and sits on top of the firebox. We fix it with a full crown rebuild and proper overhang so water sheds away from the sleeve instead of against it.
  • Joint wrap failing at the top plate. The HeatShield joint wrap system seals the liner connection, but on chimneys with a dead-level crown, pooled water works into that wrap over a few Fairfax freeze-thaw cycles. The symptom is a damp smell from the fireplace in spring. Our fix is a rebuilt crown with slope and a silicone top coat, then we replace the joint wrap per HeatShield’s own installation spec.
  • Standard caps rusting out after 6 to 8 years. HeatShield’s bundled caps do their job, but they’re not all stainless, and Fairfax winters are not kind to galvanized. We swap them for stainless single-flue or multi-flue caps from Olympia or Copperfield. Same fit, longer life, and your HeatShield liner stays protected.
  • Cerfractory seal failure at the flue tile gap. This is a HeatShield-specific one. The Cerfractory material bonds the liner to the flue tile, and it’s rated for the flue interior, not for standing water. When a crown is flat or cracked, water gets behind that seal and separates it. If your sweep looks up the flue and sees what looks like a gap between the liner and tile at the very top, that’s usually the culprit. The fix is crown work first, then Cerfractory repair. Doing it the other way around just means doing it twice.
  • Custom multi-flue caps missing on older HeatShield installs. A lot of Fairfax homes with two flues got HeatShield liners years ago but never got a proper multi-flue cap. Instead they have two mismatched single-flue caps or nothing at all on one flue. We measure and install a stainless multi-flue cap that covers both openings and the crown shoulders, which also slows crown erosion from rain splash.

Our HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Process

Here’s how a HeatShield cap and crown job goes with us, start to finish:

  1. 1
You call, a person answers. Could be Wendell. You describe what you’re seeing, and we ask enough questions to give you a real price range, not a guess. No trip charge inside our service county.
  2. 2
We look before we quote. The sweep who shows up is background-checked and in uniform. He gets on the roof, photographs the cap, the crown, and the flue top. If it’s a crown issue, he also runs a camera down the flue to check the HeatShield liner and Cerfractory seal before he recommends anything.
  3. 3
You get a plain-English verdict. Camera footage and all. If the crown is fine and the cap just needs replacing, we tell you that. If it does not need doing, Wendell will tell you that too.
  4. 4
We agree on parts and price. For HeatShield-lined chimneys we stock OEM-compatible replacement components and quality aftermarket caps from Olympia and Copperfield. We’ll tell you which one fits your situation and why. The number we agree on is the number on the invoice.
  5. 5
The work happens. Cap replacement is usually under an hour. Crown rebuilds take longer because the old material has to come off, the surface gets prepped, and the new crown cures before we top-coat it. We leave the roof cleaner than we found it.
  6. 6
You get the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If anything about the job isn’t right, one call brings us back. No arguing, no re-quoting. That’s the whole point of the guarantee.

What HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Costs in Fairfax

Straight numbers, because that’s what you actually want:

  • Single-flue stainless cap replacement: $425 to $650 installed, depending on flue size and existing top plate condition.
  • Multi-flue stainless cap (two or three flues): $750 to $1,250, cut and fitted to your crown dimensions.
  • Crown coating with a silicone sealant: $375 to $600, works when the crown is structurally sound but porous or lightly cracked.
  • Full crown rebuild with proper overhang and slope: $950 to $1,850, depending on crown size, access, and whether we’re also repairing the Cerfractory seal at the flue tile.

What moves the price: roof pitch and access, whether the old cap mortared or mechanically fastened, and whether the crown is cracking but salvageable or crumbling and done. You’ll know which one before we start. And remember, we give $40 off any repair over $200, plus free second opinions on any written estimate. Call (571) 624-2385 for an exact number, and you’ll hear it from a person, not a script.

Why Fairfax Homeowners Call Top Hat Chimney for HeatShield Work

Because when you call a national outfit, you don’t know who’s climbing onto your roof. When you call us, you get a local owner-operated crew that’s been at this since 1999. Wendell puts his name on every job and runs into you at the hardware store on Saturday. The 90-Day Done Right Promise is in writing on every single invoice, not buried in fine print on a website.

We work with HeatShield, DuraFlex, Gelco, Olympia Chimney, Famco, and Copperfield, which means if your liner is fine but your cap is shot, we fix the cap. We don’t upsell you a liner because that’s the only brand the franchise carries. And if we find a problem with a DuraFlex or Gelco component while we’re up there, we’ll tell you that too, with camera footage to back it up.

Fairfax is our territory. We know these houses, these rooflines, and what a freeze-thaw cycle does to a flat crown. You’ll also get 10% off if you’re a senior or veteran, no trip charge inside the county, and a real arrival window that we actually honor. If it slips, we call.
